Mary was born November 24, 1934 in rural Carr Valley, WI, daughter of Kenneth and Hazel Warren. She married LaVerne Nelson on May 20, 1961 at the Midvale Community Lutheran Church in Madison, WI.
After completing her high school education, Mary attended and graduated from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Madison in 1955, where she continued working until her marriage. Mary and her husband LaVerne made their home in La Crosse, WI, where their three children, Thomas, Stephen and Susan were born. LaVerne's job brought them to Iowa, where they established their home in 1969 in New Hampton.
Mary worked at the New Hampton Medical Clinic from August 1978 until March 1995. She enjoyed time with her family, especially vacations in northern Wisconsin and houseboating on the Mississippi River, golfing and playing bridge. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Those left to cherish Mary's memory include two sons, Thomas, Jerome, ID and Stephen, Deerfield, WI, one daughter, Susan (Ross) Odland, Frisco, TX, 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband LaVerne, her parents and her brother Robert.
My sympathy to all of Maryโs family. I always loved playing bridge with Mary. She had a fascinating way of shuffling cards. We also enjoyed social events with La Vern and Mary at the country club and dinner parties. New Hampton was lucky they moved here.

Tom – I’m so sorry to read of your Mom’s passing. My deepest sympathy to you, Stephen and Susan.
Beautiful celebration of life! Your mother was a beautiful person both inside and out. I always looked up to her as a neighbor and friend and enjoyed our conversations together. The saddest part of life is when that person that gave you the best memories becomes a memory! Share your memories Tom, Steve and Susie and hugs to all.
Deepest sympathy to the Nelson family.
