Richard K. Samec, age 62, of New Hampton, IA died Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton, IA after a short battle with lung cancer. Richard Kenneth Samec was born on October 14, 1947 to Joseph and Bertha (Christenson) Samec in New Hampton, IA. Rich graduated from New Hampton High School in 1966. He worked for Super Value in New Hampton for 28 years, working for Wendell Liddle and later Matt Anderson. Rich worked for Ameritec in Fredericksburg and most recently was employed by Featherlite Trailers of Cresco for 18 years. In January of 1968 Rich was inducted into the US Army serving his country in Italy. He was honorably discharged from the army in December of 1969. On June 13, 1970 Rich was united in marriage to Joeleen Thome at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, IA. Rich enjoyed hunting, fishing, and in later years he enjoyed metal detecting and was an avid gardener. He lovedspending time with family and friends. Rich and Joeleen enjoyed vacations to Memphis, TN visiting Elviss Home, Nashville, TN, Black Hills, SD, Colorado and many bus trips to Branson, MO. Rich was always very positive and had a smile and laugh for everyone. He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church. Rich is survived by his wife of 39 years Joeleen Samec of New Hampton; three children Jerry Richard Samec of New Hampton, Randy Brian Samec of Janesville, IA and Jill Marie Samec of Mason City, IA; three sisters Eleanor Wilkes of Waterloo, IA, Ruth (John) Northness of Waterloo, IA, Hazel (Kenneth) Hammell of Wapello, IA; a sister-in-law Deanna (Mike) Shoars of Orchard, IA; and several nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law Charles Wilkes. Cemetery: Burial will be in St. Marys Cemetery at New Hampton with John Northness, Jason Northness, Troy Wilkes, LeRoy Wilkes, Curtis Wilkes and Kenneth Hammell serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers will be Alan Hammell, Chad Shoars, Chris Shoars, Joleen Pietro, Julie Romeo and Connie Hammell. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion Fae Stine Post #38. Visitation: Visitation will be on Sunday, January 24, 2010 from 4-7pm at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton with a 6:00 pm scriptural wake service. Visitation will continue at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Monday. Service: Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am on Monday, January 25, 2010 at Holy Family Parish-St. Marys Center in New Hampton with Msgr. Carl Schmitt celebrating.

    I worked with Rich for many years. We became Great friends. We talked about everything.(coins,work, an car payments.)
    Back in 2007 When N.E. Iowa had a Ice Storm. Rich an his family let me spend the night at his place. I was very great full to him.

    So sorry to hear about Rich what a shock. I’d meet him alot of EARLY mornings pulling out of his driveway or up on Pleasant hill corner on his way to Featherlite to work and me on my way to Triimark, We’d wave or honk (saying have a good day). I’m going to miiss that Red Truck.
    Dan and I worked with Rich at Liddle for many years . (Thank God the coolers couldn’t talk) . We had a great group of people to work with and that’s what made the store a fun place to come into and shop and work at. I remember Dan always telling me I talk to you later , cause Rich – Don Johnson and Dan would be going somewhere fishing – they were like two older brothers to him. To crazy to be his Dad. Hold your memories close and they will get you though these long days ahead. Sending our Deepest
