Robert H Recker

November 13, 1954 ~ September 28, 2021
Robert H. Recker, 66, formerly of Green River, WY, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at home in Des Moines on September 28, 2021.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 8 from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Conway Markham Funeral Home, 508 Maple Street, Elma, Iowa. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 9 at 10:30am at Conway Markham Funeral Home with burial immediately following. Memorial contributions can be made to the family.
Robert was born on November 11, 1954, the 5th of 6 children to Edwin and Katherine (Meirick), in New Hampton, IA. He attended school in New Hampton, Iowa, graduating in 1972. Robert worked on the farm with his parents. On September 4, 1982 he married Mary Jane Roeder at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Cresco, Iowa.
Robert continued farming in Alta Vista with his wife for 38 years. During this time, 3 children came into their family: Ryan (Michele) Recker of Panora, Kelsey Jane (deceased) and Katelyn Recker, Des Moines. Included in his cherished family are his 4 grandchildren: Faith Recker, Grace Recker, Hope Recker and Isaac Recker. They moved to Manly, Iowa in 2000 before moving in 2005 to Green River, WY where he and Mary Jane became pastors of Harvestime Church. Robert held several jobs in Wyoming, including managing an apartment complex and transporting others. He enjoyed helping others and always had a smile on his face and time for a conversation, especially when it came to sharing his love for the Lord. Serving as hospital chaplain at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County in Rock Springs, WY gave him one more opportunity to do this.
Robert thoroughly loved the outdoors, growing up hunting, fishing, farming and later enjoying the wide open spaces of Wyoming. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and 4-wheeler with his wife and family, and was especially fond of the Flaming Gorge near Rock Springs, WY. He enjoyed attending sporting and other events for his grandchildren, and loved having them stay over with some one-on-one time. He was also fond of the family pets, Winston and Lady. And while he deeply loved his wife and his family, he especially was dedicated to the Lord and preached many sermons while in Green River, until he was unable to do so because of his health.
Robert is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mary Jane, his son Ryan and daughter Katelyn and their families, his brother John (Marlys) Recker, and sisters Nancy Ungs, Karen (Tom) Wyatt, Kay (Dan) Hartson and JoAnn (Jerry) Heying. He is also survived by his in-laws, many nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Katherine Recker, daughter Kelsey Jane, in-laws Urban and Marian Roeder, brother-in-law Mike Ungs, sister-in-law Rose Spence, nephew, Scott Recker and niece Angela Hannon.
Robert’s family are especially grateful to the staff at Unity Point Health and Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines for their special care.

Thoughts and prayers to Bobby’s family for your loss!
Sorry for your loss of a Godly Man, I remember when we first met at a Bible Study, the faith and desire Robert had for the Lord was infectious. I think one of the first things I said, to Robert was you got taller. Robert laughed. then one of us told Mary Jane that we went to high school together. I also way’s enjoyed listing to Robert about loving the Lord. It was a blessing to know Robert.
So many memories but I’ll choose one. Our church pastors in Wyoming started Harvestime Green River and felt they needed a break and asked me to see if I could find them a replacement, within an hour Pastor Robert called me and was near Green River and wanted to meet me there because he felt the Lord was leading him to move there, the redt as they say, is history!❤️
Dear Ryan, Michelle & family, with our deepest sympathy during this time of sorrow. Our prayers and thoughts are with you. God bless you all!
I am so very sorry for your loss. I hope that you can find peace in this difficult time.
Pastor Robert was so precious and an influencer on my life. I remember the many months that Robert and Mary Jane prayed with me over the nonprofit organization that I founded, to reach the people in need all over Sweetwater County and throughout Southwest Wyoming, and eventually the entire state of Wyoming. Our prayers for much fruit and continued to do so for many seasons. I have so many years of amazing memories as a member of HarvestTime Ministries, Robert’s preaching, being a part of the praise and worship team with Mary Jane, And just in unity and in one accord with the congregation. Robert was so gentle and had a gift of discernment that I so appreciated. I could write a volume of testimonies that speak of how special this man of God was to so many people regardless of their circumstances or Spiritual maturity. He will be greatly missed.
Pastor Robert believed in me and gave me opportunities that I otherwise would not have had, such as letting me preach to the congregation of his church so I could complete a Seminary class I was taking, and he also got me connected as a volunteer Chaplain at Sweetwater County Memorial Hospital. In addition to this he came over to my new house to do repairs on it so I could live comfortably. These were just a few things, and he didn’t really even know me at that time. He had the biggest heart and went out of his way to make everyone feel welcome. He always went over and above, and was patient and kind and respectful. I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to have met and experienced a window of Pastor Robert’s life. He holds a special place in my heart and he will always be cherished. I am keeping his family in my prayers.
So sorry Joanne and family! Thoughts and prayers to the Recker family. Monk & Jo
