Rose โ€œMarieโ€ Torkelson, age 94, of Huntley, Illinois and formerly of New Hampton, Iowa passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at her home. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, April 26, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton, Iowa with Pastor Kevin Frey officiating. Burial will be in New Hampton Cemetery at New Hampton, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 11:00-12:00 on Monday, April 26, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton, Iowa. Marie Torkelson was born on August 28, 1926 to Hubert and Alice (Morrison) Bartlett in Benton Harbor, Michigan. She attended high school through 12th grade and attended Northeast Iowa Community College in Calmar, Iowa. Marie was united in marriage to Clarion Torkelson on September 3, 1954 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in New Hampton, Iowa. Rose worked as a telephone operator for 23 years and then was dietary supervisor at New Hampton Nursing and Rehab Center for 20 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton. Marie is survived by her children Sheryl Jonagan of Huntley, Illinois and Connie Smith of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren Mark Vestal, Craig Vestal, Jennifer Vestal, Kari Sandy (Mitchell) and Kelli Reeves (Joseph), 14 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren and her dear nephew Fred (Carol) Bohaty and their children and other extended family and friends. Preceding her in death are her husband Clarion (Tork), her sons in law Jay Jonagan and Francis Vestal, great-grandson Vincent Vestal, her sister Evelyn Bohaty and her mother Alice Payer and many nieces and nephews.

  4. Much sympathy to Marie’s entire set of family and friends. “Tork and Marie” reunited in heaven sounds pretty good. Marie was such a sweetheart and what a smile! I was always greeted with a big smile and a hug! Tork and Marie will always hold a special place in our hearts as they were best of friends with my Mom and Dad. She was one of a kind!!
